Designer-Look Lighting for Under £100

My Favourite Affordable Lighting Finds

When I first started designing homes, I used to think that beautiful lighting had to come with a designer price tag. And truthfully, I’ve made the mistake of spending way too much on statement lights I thought I needed, only to realise later that the real magic happens when you find a piece that’s not only stylish—but smart on budget too.

Fast forward to today, and one of my favourite things to do as an interior designer is hunt down designer-inspired lighting that looks high-end, feels intentional, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It’s amazing how the right wall light or table lamp can completely elevate a room. Lighting truly is the unsung hero of good design.

So I’ve rounded up my favourite affordable lighting picks that cost less than £100 - but before you dive in, I want to share how I approach lighting design and what I look for to make a budget find feel like a boutique piece.

Why Lighting Deserves More Attention Than It Gets

Lighting is one of the most overlooked elements in home design, but I’d argue it’s one of the most impactful. In my early days of designing my own space, I’d spend hours picking paint colours or cushions, only to plonk a harsh ceiling bulb overhead and wonder why the room didn’t feel cosy.

The reality is: lighting sets the tone. It shapes the mood of the space, draws attention to your favourite corners, and adds that sculptural detail that makes a room feel considered.

What I Look for in Affordable Designer-Look Lighting

When I’m searching for budget lighting under £100, I’m always thinking about three things:

  • Shape, size & silhouette – Sculptural, curved, or oversized pieces make a statement even when switched off. If in doubt, go big!

  • Materials – I look for finishes like brushed brass, lights with interesting glass details, marble, or textural fabric shades for a more elevated feel

  • Warmth – A lot of cheap lighting looks cold or blue-toned. I always recommend warm white bulbs and dimmable options when possible

If a light can tick those boxes, it doesn’t matter if it costs £30 or £300 — it will look expensive.

How I Use Lighting to Instantly Elevate a Room

Here’s a trick I often share with clients during my Design Clinic sessions: instead of relying on a single overhead light, layer in at least two other sources — a table lamp, a floor lamp, or even plug-in wall lights (which are brilliant for renters).

In my own home, I have a mix of uplighting and low lighting in every room. I even use rechargeable lights in unexpected places — like a dark hallway — to bring that cosy, designer feel without needing an electrician. Rechargeable lights have become increasingly popular recently - and for good reason.

And if you’ve fallen in love with a light fitting but don’t have wiring to that spot, you can also get remote operated rechargeable bulbs. I used rechargeable bulbs in the two wall lights I have in my guest bedroom.
